The Global Peace Index apart from looking at the presence or absence of war takes into consideration; the absence of violence or the fear of violence across these three domains:

The 14th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) report includes an analysis of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on peace, it also examines how the economic consequences of the pandemic will increase the risk of severe deteriorations in Positive Peace over the next few years.

While most African Countries still battles the grips of authoritarian government and many unresolved conflicts, the under-listed Countries are the most peaceful countries in Africa. It is important to note that while Mauritius is the first in Africa, it is the number 23 most peaceful country in the World.
